Food Review

Since yesterday was labor day... I thought I review a food that I just recently tried for the first time (that a lot of people chow down on labor day) after a long time of always walking by it in the store telling myself... "you should really try those"....

Want to know what I tried?

Well even if you could care less I am going to tell you anyways... Applegate Farms Grass-Fed Hot Dogs!!

So think of the last hot dog you ate... did you like it... or did you just think... "holy moly I am eating a lot of unhealthy calories for something so small"... well now you NO LONGER have to think that way because these hot dogs I found are SPOT ON (in taste) to the real thing but are actually HEALTHY FOR YOU!

Grass-Fed & Grass-Finished Red Meat (including hot dogs) is by far superior to grain-fed & grain-finished red meats... check out why at EatWild.com... that website explains it so much better than I ever can!

Really though... I am sure you want to know just how these suckers taste: well let's just say I was dying (of happiness) when I was eating them because man, were they good! They taste just like the originals and with a mix of mustard and ketchup (yes, my Heinz Sugar Free Ketchup does the trick, no doubt)... my taste buds start doing the tango!

Since I don't eat bread, I wrapped these puppies (ha ha, pun intended) in lettuce boats which worked out incredibly well...

In fact I liked these hot dogs so much, I bought 2 more packages at the store today: they were on sale for $3.99 per package... each package holding 8 dogs...

Each dog has 110 calories... so if you ate 5 dogs, you would be eating just 550 calories... well I'm no sure if you think that is a lot or not but for me that's definitely something I will be doing in the near future! ha ha.

As for the ingredients... each dog is packed with: Organic Grass-Fed Beef, Water, Contains Less Than 2% Of The Following: Sea Salt, Organic Spices, Organic Garlic Powder, Organic Paprika, Celery Powder, Organic Onion, Lactic Acid Starter Culture (Not From Milk). --> Looks like a WINNER in my mind: no sugar or any other "kookie" ingredients that might RUIN my hot dog loving experience!

Even though hot dog season is coming to a close... I will most definitely be buying these suckers through the winter because they could always be used in stews, scrambled eggs, salads... just use your imagination!

Honestly though, if you were apprehensive about trying these dogs out like I was... push that curiosity aside and buy a package the next time you seem em'- well work your money, hands down!

**PS: These hot dogs are ALREADY cooked so they are extremely easy & quick for when you or your family is on the go but need a protein packed snack/meal!**

(Even this cow thinks his dogs are good!)

Where's the BEEF?

"If beef is your idea of 'real food for real people' you'd better live REAL close to a GOOD hospital" - Neal Bernard, M.D.

Neal Bernard's statement needs to be fine tuned...

Not ALL beef is created equally...

Did you even know that there was a difference in grass-fed beef and grain-fed beef? Have you always believed that cows simply roamed open pastures, eating all the grass in the world, and simply love life?

Sorry to be the bearer of BAD news and all but... that's completely false. Cows may roam on lush grass for about 6 month to 2 years of their lives and then BAM... off to the feed lot they go where they are FORCED to chow down on grains not suitable for their stomachs. In fact, in order for farmers/feed lot workers to make sure cows do not get sick and die from eating grain, they have to make the switch from grass to grain over a gradual period of time. If a cow was to go from grass to grain over night, it would die...

And why are cows fed grains? To get nice and PLUMP! Because PLUMP meat sells to those who don't care an ounce about their health!
(Oh and by the way, cows eat grains to get fat... so people out there, if you want to gain weight: eat all the grains to your hearts content!)

So why am I talking about this... What is the "who cares" to my rant... I want to emphasize how important reading labels and making sure when you buy your beef (or any red meat for that matter) at the store, on-line, etc... that is be GRASS-FED and GRASS-FINISHED!!! The health benefits are tremendous! In fact there are so many that some say grass-fed/finished red meats are a near perfect health food! Who would have thought eating RED MEAT could = health! TAKE THAT NEAL BERNARD!

OH AND DID I MENTION..... THIS MEAT IS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS?
